Maintaining healthy hygiene habits is the easiest way to keep our families healthy and safe.
Typically, we can run to the store and grab what we need in a breeze. For times when the shelves are empty of our most basic supplies DIY can save your sanity, time & money.
Below you will find three easy recipes that can be made multiple times once you have the ingredients for far cheaper and safer than buying them over the counter. These are recipes I have used for my family over the last three years and I swear by them!
1. Homemade Hand Soap:
You can make so much of this for pennies on the dollar and free of any toxins.
Supplies needed
2 tablespoons of Castile Soap
10-20 drops Thieves EO or 5-10 each Rosemary, tea tree and Lemon
A squirt of Fractionated Coconut oil or any carrier oil on hand
Distilled or filtered water
Directions
Mix all of the ingredients together (except the water) in the foaming bottle.
Now fill the rest with water. Make sure to leave enough room for the top to fit or you will get over flow.
Shake well before each use.
2. Hand Sanitizer:
I included both Spray and Gel…The spray sanitizer can double as a surface spray and it's my preferred method of application. I usually eye-ball all my recipes so you can tweak them as necessary and double and triple where needed. As long as you have the microbial powered ingredients the aloe vera gel can be adjusted as necessary. The carrier oils and glycerin are for moisturizing and the colloidal silver doubles for skin soothing and has been used since the 14th century for cleansing and medical uses. You can make as big of batch as you like or put it on a pump bottle.
Supplies needed
1 TBS alcohol (I prefer ethanol because it won’t kill the good bacteria but rubbing alcohol is what the CDC recommends)
2 ½ TBS Aloe vera gel
½ tsp Carrier oil (Vitamin e, coconut, jojoba)
20 drops Essential Oils (Thieves or Tea Tree, Rosemary and Lemon, lavender)
½ tsp vegetable glycerin (recommended but optional)
20 drops Colloidal Silver (optional) { Insert link}
Distilled water
2 oz spray bottle or reuse an old small hand sanitizer bottle for the gel.
Funnel
Directions
To Make it a Gel
In a small bowl mix all of the ingredients together well
Funnel the ingredients into the 2 oz bottle and bam you got yourself some gel
To Make it a Spray
If you use Young Living vitality oils and high grade colloidal silver this can triple as a hand, surface and throat spray… You’re welcome. If not it is totally safe for hand and surface.
Mix essential oils, glycerin, colloidal silver and alcohol in 2 oz bottle
You can drop the aloe vera gel all together and not use it but does help moisturize as well.
Now fill the rest with distilled water
Shake well before each use.
3. Cleaning Wipes
Supplies
2 TBS Vinegar
20-30 drops Essential oils (Thieves or any citrus oils like lemon, orange, lemongrass, Tangerine)
2 cups Distilled water.
I recommend a glass container (I got mine from hobby lobby) but you can use an old wipe container.
A roll of paper towels or a bunch of wash cloths.
Side note… I personally use 2 cap fulls of Young Living Household Cleaner mixed in the water and I’m good to go. But I used this recipe before I knew about Young Living.
Directions
Cut paper towels in half remove the cardboard from inside and place in your container.
In a bowl mix all ingredients together.
Pour ingredients over paper towel. I always let them sit for a bit to soak it all up.
Pull from the middle and it will be just like your regular wipes.
Right now supplies are hard to come by on Amazon so get crafty and repurpose some of your old containers. If you don't have a foaming pump bottle, its okay just use a regular pump bottle you have laying around the house. You just need the product right now, not the pretty wrapping.
